Products which can be printed today

3D printing of ophthalmic lenses opens up possibilities to create unique ophthalmic products. 3D printing gives ophthalmic labs, eyewear designers, and opticians the freedom to create new lens designs, tailored solutions and helps them to create even products that are not yet possible to fabricate today. The Luxexcel platform will be launched in Q4 2017.
Important to understand is that today Luxexcel Technology offer ophthalmic labs the possibility to custom RX lens parts in the specialty lens segment. The initial applications will center around specialty RX lenses including prisms, high prescriptions, trifocals, occupational wear and slab-offs, we do not operate in mass markets such as mono focal and progressive lenses

Examples of products which we can print today include:
Specialty lenses: high powers, prisms, lenticulars, slab-offs, etc.
Customized optics bi/tri/quadri focals: where the ophthalmic lab can position the additions where required;
Customized cosmetics where the user or the lab can add custom visible markings, sports figures, names, brands and decorations;
Prescription lenses for AR/VR goggles allowing the use of goggles with a wider field of view and without wearing regular glasses underneath.

We expect the future for this technology to be in a market area where the technology will open up doors to new applications that are not possible to create today. The print platform offers ophthalmic labs the freedom to create revolutionary lens designs and smart-glass functionalities in a mainstream ophthalmic process. Embedded Device
Lenses with RX power that can change color and transmission like photochromic glasses but switch instantly. Thin films, electronics, camera's, sensors, lens filters, chips, and sensors, amongst other materials, both optical and non-optical, can be seamlessly embedded in the lenses and printing process in order to create novel lens features and applications.

Unique lens designs
Creating unique shapes is one of the benefits of 3D printing. When using 3D printing technologies to create eyeglass lenses, you can physically ‘shape’ new lens designs, both on the optical surface (aspherical, prismatic) and lens contours.

As mass customization now comes within the reach of any eyewear professional, commodity niche applications can now also be served with tailored products. Think for example about AR and VR applications: tailored focal power can now be added to any product and create an even greater user experience with a greater field of view and no need to wear different pairs of glasses, or replace them.
