Creating a highly faceted reflector part for Bartenbach

Why did Bartenbach choose Luxexcel for this project?

Bartenbach needed a custom reflector part with a large amount of different facets. With the printing capabilities and patendted 3D printing materials of Luxexcel the overall shape, including all the facets, could be created within two weeks, without the investment in tooling. Additionally Luxexcel can easily replicate affordable parts at the exact number that is required. In this case Bartenbach needed 12 pieces to create their demonstrator, which were also printed within these two weeks. For this part the LUX Opticlear material was chosen due to the height (19mm) of the product.

After the printing process, the 3d printed reflector was coated by a long term Bartenbach partner to verify the successful of the concept and the suitability of the Luxexcel material to be coated. The LUX Opticlear material was coated with an Aluminum layer at room temperature. The resulting coating is very uniform and has a very good optical performance. The facets are not influenced by the coating.

After the industrialization, the reflector will be assembled in linear luminaires for the real installation in the Tosoni Office Building - Verona.

It is mainly the printed precise optics with micro structure that give Luxexcel’s technology a place within this project.

iNSPiRe project

iNSPiRe is an EC-FP7 funded project that concentrates the skills of 24 partners in the refurbishment of post-war residential and tertiary buildings in Europe. The duration of iNSPiRe is four years. The aim of the project is to reduce the lighting energy consumption by at least 50% and the primary energy consumption of a building to lower than 50 kWh/m2/year. The project will complete in 4 milestones and will renovate the existing buildings through envelope renovation packages, energy generation packages, energy distribution packages, and supervision systems.

The challenge

Tackle the problem of high-energy consumption by producing systemic Renovation Packages. Inspire is developing a number of industrial products specifically designed to fit retrospectively to Europe’s existing building stock. These products take the form of Renovation Kits including HVAC systems, lighting and shading systems, pipings and ducts, and energy generation systems. All to bring these buildings back to today’s standards.

The offered solution

A special optical component developed by Bartenbach that offers a glare free and high comfort experience in office luminaires through the homogeneity in lighting distribution and a precise cut off.

Application

The main application is foreseen in offices, application parallel to the façade. The product is applicable to new ceiling as well as in refurbishment of existing ceiling.

Within the Inspire project the resulting luminaires will be integrated in TRIPAN acoustic + heating and cooling panels to develop the energy Kit 6, a multifunctional ceiling panel for heating and cooling, ventilation and lighting distribution.

Several reflectors can be combined to create linear luminaires with an asymmetric or symmetric Luminous intensity distribution (LID).

Bartenbach’s future plans with Luxexcel

After the industrialization, the reflector will be assembled in linear luminaires for the real installation in the Tosoni Office Building - Verona. The printing technology offered by Luxexcel will be further tested and implemented in Bartenbach Development and Research Centre. It is mainly the printed precise optics with micro structures, offered through Luxexcel's rapid prototyping service that gives the technology a place within this project.
