The rise of smart glasses

Glasses have been passive devices for decades. With the integration of technology, glasses will become interactive. For smart glasses to be accepted by the consumer, they  must look, feel, and function like regular fashion eyeglasses. Prescription lenses for smart glasses

About 60% of the world population today requires prescription lenses to correct their vision. By 2030, it’s predicted that this will grow to 80% of the world population requiring vision correction. Currently, smart glasses don’t address this growing need for a prescription well. Some have tried prescription adapters which are bulky, create glare, are hard to clean and don’t stay in place well. We offer a better solution.

Many technology companies have a business model that stocks products in anticipation of a consumer placing an order as SKUs. Once vision correction through prescription lenses is necessary for 80% of the population, this model will no longer work. To date, stocking just the most common lens prescriptions needed would result in more than 3 million SKUs. Integration of technology inside prescription lenses

With Luxexcel 3D printing technology, it is possible to integrate almost any device directly into a lens. In addition, the customers exact prescription can be added. Integrating waveguides, different lens projection areas, holographic films or active foils inside a prescription lens is all possible with Luxexcel lenses. This allows the combination of prescription lenses and smart glasses, a process which isn’t possible with legacy lens manufacturing.
